Healthier Generation Benefit Quality Improvement Project

Together with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Institute for Healthy Childhood Weight is launching a quality improvement project to collaboratively change practice systems, in the context of the Healthier Generation Benefit, to improve care delivery for children with a BMI of 85th percentile or higher. The landmark Healthier Generation Benefit, designed by Alliance for a Healthier Generation, offers 4+ pediatrician and 4+ dietician visits per year for children at or above the 85th percentile for BMI.

Change Talk: Childhood Obesity Online Training Module

In partnership with Kognito, leaders in virtual learning experiences that drive positive change in health behaviors, the Institute for Healthy Childhood Weight has created a web-based and mobile app that helps pediatricians and healthcare professionals apply motivational interviewing skills to address childhood obesity.

Partnership with Chop Chop Cooking Magazine for Families

The Institute for Healthy Childhood Weight is proud to partner with Chop Chop to help families cook and eat real food together. The AAP serves as a technical reviewer and supports distribution of Chop Chop content through pediatric practices and online at HealthyChildren.org.

Healthy Active Living Grants

A collaboration of the Institute for Healthy Childhood Weight and the AAP Community Pediatrics Training Initiative, this program has awarded $275,000 in grants to chapters and residency training program pairs. To date, 11 pairs have built partnerships with community organizations to develop and implement sustainable strategies to support Healthy Active Living for children and families.

Improving Treatment for Overweight and Obese Children

Through a partnership with the Children's Hospital Association, the Institute for Healthy Childhood Weight will be seek innovative strategies to improve the quality and coordination of care between primary and tertiary care as well as explore and test models to improve patient retention.

Obesity Prevention, Assessment and Treatment Maintenance of Certification Module

This multidisciplinary healthy living curriculum will educate clinicians on how to recognize children at risk for obesity and its comorbities, and how to promote healthy weight among chidren and their families. It is envisioned that both CME and MOC Part IV credits will be available for this course.
